Unlike the Gateway of India situated in Mumbai was a monument meant to greet King George V and Queen Mary to the country in 1911, the India Gate is a war memorial. Tagged to be the national monument of India, the memorial was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in memory of the 90,000 soldiers who died fighting for the British Raj during World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War. The statue of the King was replaced post the Indian independence with the Amar Jawan Jyoti (a flame for the immortal soldier), and is a tribute to the soldiers of the Indian armed forces, who protect the nation’s interest with their lives. Jai Hind!

PS: This is also a part of my key-chain collection. However, I would love to capture the monument on my camera some day. The last time I went to Delhi, I had no time to stand and stare!
