The Swamp Deer or Barasingha is a deer species which is native to India and Nepal.  Barasingha  is Hindi for 12 horned, a name earned by a mature deer who has branched horns. We came across this peaceful creature grazing quietly at the high-altitude Nainital Zoo. What a magnificent sight to witness!

  1. The deer is so different from the kind we see here in the US. Beautiful.

    • He comes from the reindeer family , a close descendant really, its actually closer to the Sambar deer family if i know the facts right

  2. A shame to see him in a fence. So majestic.
