This is what I call an ocean of humanity; people coming in and out of every possible direction! Here’s a bit of trivia about the crowd-pulling temple. The Amber Fort at Jaipur is home to the famed Shila Mata temple which spots a big idol of Goddess Kali in white marble. Legend has it that the Maharaja Man Singh was a devout devotee of goddess Kali. This statue was commissioned by the king from Bengal (which is now a part of Bangladesh) towards the end of the 16th century AD. When the king was defeated in a war against the empire of King Pratapaditya, he mediated meticulously to seek divine intervention from the goddess. The goddess granted his wish on the rider that he offer human fleash and blood. When the king took to sacrificing humans, his loyal subjects reminded him that if he continues this kind of sacrifice, his family would be on the slaughter soon too. Thus he stopped the killings. However to this day, every week an offering of one animal happens behind closed doors. On the doorway a Ganesha idol carved out of a single piece of coral greets you.
